What's taking so long?

Many of you are wondering why it's taking so long to get results. From emails received over the past few months, it's clear that many family members are under the impression that the genealogy report will get things rolling. Well the truth is that the genealogy report is just a very small part of a much larger set of tasks. Since most of you don't know what's all involved then here's a very brief summary of what we have to sort through:

1. Nearly 300 mineral companies (oil, lignite, gas, coal) and their particular sets of paperwork
2. Several hundred CD-ROMs worth of data
3. over 200 2-inch binders completely filled up
4. Several governments agencies
5. Court documents
and more!

So hopefully this helps to put a perspective on things and allow you to see what sort of patience is required to see this through.

Telling us how many CDs and binders there are gives us absolutely no information about where in the process things stand. You say things need to be "sorted through". Sorted through for what purpose? Can you be specific about the steps yet to be taken? Are you still in some sort of preliminary discovery phase?

Burney,

There isn't a nice clear cut way to explain where things are because there isn't a formula for this process.
The whole point in telling you what is involved is to explain why it's taking time to get through. Now you don't have to wait on us. You are free to go about things yourself. If we aren't moving fast enough for you then by all means have at it, if you are entitled to anything in this family matter.. Thanks for your reply. :)

Twillis,

First of all, congratulations to you. Secondly, if this is true then you should be helping your other family members instead of gloating about it. We aren't just helping ourselves like you have. We are trying to do this for the entire family.
We know of several family members who have gotten paid as well so don't think you are the only one. Not hardly.

Lastly, you need to know that many people have been getting paid alot less than what they are entitled too because they don't know what's all there. Whatever attorney you have, I can assure you, don't have as much family property information that we have discovered. The oil companies are NOT bound by law to voluntarily reveal what all money is owed in royalty payments. It's up to the royalty owners to locate and identify the spots where we are owed money.

This is why we are doing all of this research. the vast majority (Im sure you are included) of family members don't realize what they are missing out on.

By the way, we have an updated record of who is getting paid so we already know about you IF you are actually getting anything. :)

have a nice day!

I wasn't complaining about how fast one is or isnt moving--I didnt create the title "what's taking so long", it just happened to be the name of the post to which I placed a comment. My question is no more than a request for a little more detail regarding where and what you are doing and where in the process you are. There may be no set formula, but the things you are doing are presumably done with a particular purpose. For example, what are you looking for when going through the CD's of data? What is the nature and the purpose of dealing with the governmental agencies? And which agencies? What types of court documents are you going through, and what is the purpose? What are you doing with the information that you find? What is the significance of their being 300 mineral companies? Does a settlement need to be made with each individual company or is there a type of group settlement under which each company is a party?
Are there indeed 300 companies in existence or are you counting the predecessors in interest?

My question is in the spirit of the blogs purpose. Just asking for less abstract information :)

I called attorney Wright;s office about two mounths ago and spoke with his secretary asking the status of our case, and was informed that the genealogy report was completed, and that they had been asked to produce two documents, which they had furnished as to date. I;d hoped to hear of some updated information by now. could you please furnish me with any lihgt as to where we stand now, or an estimated time in which we might recieve any money? Inow live in Missouri and i;m not able to keep in the loop on the going on of this case. Any information obtained will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. May the love of our Lord be with us all. Kenneth Lee Jones

kennethjones,

It would be best if you didn't concern yourself with that law firm any longer.
